What have we learnt from the National T20 Cup?

Dont you know what happened during the T20 Cup? Its cool its cool we have you covered! Just like any Pakistan domestic competition, everyone thinks it will be a pretty dull affair and only the usual suspects will stand out. But yet again another exciting domestic competition has sprung some interesting talking points, surprise standout performances and more hope that Pakistan cricket is really the most exciting on the planet. Here is our lowdown:

1. The Return of the chosen one

Umar Akmal's stunning 115* off 48 balls (including 34 off a Yasir Arafat over!)  and his consistent match winning knocks throughout earnt him a recall to the Pakistan team. Unfortunately he failed to deliver in the final as he was undone by another comeback king.....which has led many to believe he still lacks the ability to perform in the big games when it matters. I guess only time will tell with this one...

2. Comeback King Saeed Ajmal

Is this the return of the jadugar? We sure you and many fans of Ajmal are hoping this is the return of the King! He finished on top with figures of 35-0-220-20 Average of 11. Economy rate of 6.28. Read the full post on Saeed Ajmal controversy here

3. OMG Karachi finally win a domestic T20 competition!

After losing 7 T20 final on the bounce... Its fair to say they made very sure the title would be Karachi's. Both Karachi teams qualified for the final but it begs the question why no "Sialkot Stallions?"

4. Shafiq showing he is a big game player who can adapt to the shorter forms.

Shafiq was the man-of-the-match in the first semi-final of the National T20 Cup where Karachi Whites beat Peshawar courtesy his unbeaten 92 off 55 balls.

5. Salman Butt... erm yeah so this happened...

Rumour has it, he will be selected for Pakistan in the ODI series against West Indies in place of Sami Aslam.... moment of silence ....

6. Heroic performance from Khurram Manzoor only a few days after his father died. Massive Respect.

Blues’ win was set up by half-centuries from Khurram Manzoor and Fawad Alam. Manzoor struck three fours in four balls, and motored to his half-century in 36 balls, bringing it up in the 15th over. By then, Blues were 118 for 2.

7. Fazeela Saba is more than our WCW, she still slayed though!

Fazeela Saba (sports anchor @ptv) has done an excellent job covering the national T20 Cup. Never easy for a female to work so well in such a male dominated sport and culture. Hosting and commentating during the competition she has done a stellar job and remained unflustered throughout.  We hope she continues to grow, host more frequently and encourage more women to come into Pakistan Cricket in all mediums possible.

8.Junaid Khans emotional moment/Inspirational Speech

"Ive come from a place where playing international cricket is still a dream. I played the kind of cricket i have always wanted" - Junaid Khan

9. Mohammad Asghar is the real deal.

11 wickets @ 6.25 economy rate!!! PSL performance was no fluke!

10. Sohail Khan can really bat (hard work pays off)

We heard from Mickey Arthur on how hard Sohail works on the weaker suit of his game. In the final this hard work really showed with a cameo 24 off 11 with some monster sixes!

Also a 20 ball fifty was hit by Sohaib Maqsood...fastest of the tournament.

11. Karachi Blues bowling attack wins the final... Funny that! But what a final!

Pakistan National t20 Cup ends with the bowlers winning the match for Karachi Blues. The future of Pakistan's bowling attack looks to be in very safe hands. We have more talent then any other country in this department. Proving what we have always known....Domestically and Internationally Pakistanis REALLY know how to bowl! Congratulations Karachi Blues!

12. Special mention to Mohammad Nawaz

The coolest guy in the team. Bowled the last over in which Karachi Whites required 11 off 6. A boundary was reverse swept off his first ball. 7 needed off 5. Nawaz came back with a dot and then an arm-ball that took Mohammad Hasan's middle stump. Azam Hussain sliced a couple over the covers before falling lbw off the next ball.. He restricted Whites to within 3 runs and won the game for his team. Man of the Match Performance! In crunch times, its the great players that stand up and take control. Nawaz took control and bowled exceptionally! Bright future for Nawaz and Pakistan.
